New Hours

The library has adjusted to the new lower budget. An hour has been eliminated both at the beginning and at the end of the day. Employees are now working less hours to help with the budget crises. Sunday business hours have been eliminated.

It appears that the new state budget is not going to be sufficient. We can only hope that there are no further money problems for our library system.

Flaming Lance of Death

The video on YOUTUBE called flaming lance of death was fascinating. They used a high grade of bacon to make a torch that cut steel. All they used with the bacon was oxygen and the resulting flame cut metal. They also made a flame using a cucumber and bread sticks which burned brightly.

Tripoutlook.com

I visited this web 2.0 site and created a travel website. It is titled "Europe On Your Own". You can get information on hotels and airlines. After you find one that you like you can make online reservations. This site is amazing!

Web 2.0 Awards List--Pandora

Pandors is a site that lets you tell them what music or artists you like and then it plays music similar to those. It plays artist after artist and really makes some interesting parallels between artists. Try it!

CML Wikii

I just added to the favorite books category on the CML wikii. It was easy to add to the writing. I added a couple of comments about my favorite magazines. It would be neat to do more with wikii's when I have time. I would recommend this type of thing to anyone.

Using Wikis In The Library

Wikis are useful for referencing reading lists and for posting events. Libraries also use the wikis for posting material that employees need. I found a very good wikii that lead me to the library material at Michigan University. One library used a wiki to let customers sign into their summer reading program.

Web2.o had a neat list under music. I found Pandora which plays music by a performers name or a title of the piece. It plays the performer that you ask for and then uses the Genome project to find similar performers--in terms of style and sound. I love it. I am using it at home to listen to music while I do my e-mail and other tasks.
